Modified Citrus Pectin

Pectin is a soluble fiber that is found in the cell walls of plants and certain fruits. It naturally binds to fats and other substances that are present in the gut, helping to push them through your intestines. This can help you lose weight and have more frequent bowel movements.
Citrus pectin is obtained from the peels of citrus fruits, specifically oranges, lemons, and limes. The pectin in citrus fruits is not soluble in water.

Modified citrus pectin is different from other pectins because of the way it is prepared. It is modified by a proprietary process, which reduces the molecular weight of the pectin molecule. Average molecular weight: 98kD. Methoxylation: not more than 5%
Citrus Pectin has the following features:

• Increases the volume of stool by forming a gel in the intestinal tract, thereby improving bowel regularity. This product may be especially useful in constipation and other situations where fecal transit time is prolonged and evacuation is delayed. Some people take a higher dose (three or four teaspoonfuls) of citrus pectin at bedtime. This product does not cause cramping or diarrhea as psyllium may do.

There are no known risks associated with taking this type of fiber.

Some people complain of abdominal discomfort and flatulence when taking this supplement. If you have trouble tolerating this product, try taking less. You could also try taking it with meals to minimize gastrointestinal disturbances.
